Great gardens that can inspire our decoration

Gardens have always been considered tranquil places where peace and harmony reign. They have enabled us to bring nature to our homes, creating beautiful and harmonious atmospheres that give us, above all, a peaceful and relaxing environment.

The design of a garden should take these aspects into consideration so as to be able to create a unique and special place. A natural space that we can enjoy! And, in order to achieve a well-designed garden, there is nothing better than checking out the great historic gardens that exist all over the world. Their designs can serve as inspiration for us when decorating our own spaces.

Historic gardens materialized for different reasons. They were born from the nobility’s and the royalty’s desire to have places where they could relax close to their palaces, for the embodiment of certain religious motivations, or as a result of the development of urban policies. All of these gardens feature impressive green spaces, where floral compositions and the ornamental use of different fittings, paths or water are given importance.

Some examples of great gardens in Spain are:

  • The Generalife gardens at the Alhambra de Granada: Splendid orchard from the XIII century, which is inspired by the Islamic paradise.
  • The gardens of La Granja Palace in Segovia: A study in landscaping from the XVIII century that models natural slopes and the combination of floral decoration with an important set of fountains.
  • The Campo del Moro and De Sabatini gardens at the Royal Palace in Madrid: Beautiful parks from the middle of the XIX century where fountains, green meadows and leafy trees complement each other.
  • Park Güell in Barcelona: A surprising and magical place, the work of Antonio Gaudí at the beginning of the XX century. The undulating forms of the buildings are inspired by nature.

Outside of Spain there are many gardens, out of which the following stand out:

  • The gardens at the Palace of Versailles in France: Baroque floral compositions together with sculptures and fountains, which have evolved from the wishes of King Luis XIV in the XVIII century. They have been declared a World Heritage Site.
  • The gardens of Hatfield Palace in England: Renaissance-style Park which belongs to the English monarchy, in which gardening has a special importance.
  • Suzhou gardens in China: They have also been declared a World Heritage Site, where the four classic elements of Chinese floral art are mixed: rocks, water, plants and pavilions.
  • The gardens of the Taj Mahal in India: They are of Mongolian influence with an interesting combination of fountains, marble paths and floral vegetation.
  • The botanical garden in Brooklyn in the United States of America.

The incredible landscaping and gardening in these amazing gardens inspire and provide us with a lot of ideas that we can replicate, on a much reduced scale, with the floral decoration of our garden.
